At Pelican, we believe that education is a dynamic and enriching experience that can empower children and positively shape their lives. As a small, boutique early learning centre, we are able to provide a warm, personalised and family-oriented environment where every child is known, valued and supported as an individual.

We strive to provide a holistic learning experience that is engaging, exciting and challenging, while supporting children as they prepare to transition to their Big School.

With more than 20 years of experience, Pelican is proud to provide a welcoming, nurturing and inclusive environment for children up to six years of age. Our team of qualified, experienced and friendly educators takes the time to build genuine relationships with each child and family, creating a strong sense of belonging and community.

At Pelican, child safety and inclusion, learning through play and discovery, close-knit community connections and an open-door approach are central to our philosophy. We provide a safe, nurturing environment where every child is valued, encouraged to learn and supported through strong partnerships with families.

A Child-Safe and Inclusive Environment

The safety, wellbeing and protection of every child is at the heart of everything we do. As a boutique centre, we value the close relationships we develop with children and families and take pride in creating an environment where children feel safe, respected, heard, valued and supported.

We promote a child-safe culture where children are encouraged to express their feelings, share their ideas and speak up when something does not feel right. Our educators build trusting and respectful relationships with children and remain attentive to their individual needs, wellbeing and sense of security.

We recognise that every child has the right to feel safe and included, regardless of their background, culture, abilities or individual circumstances. We foster an inclusive environment where diversity is respected and every child is encouraged to participate, develop confidence and be themselves.

Our educators maintain a strong focus on child protection, supervision, positive relationships and safe practices throughout the Centre. We work closely with families to create a consistent and supportive environment where children can learn, play and grow with confidence.
Learning

Learning Through Play and Discovery

Aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), our programs offer interest-based, child-focused and interactive learning experiences through play and exploration. We recognise that every child is unique, and we encourage their curiosity, confidence, independence and love of learning.

To support a smooth transition to formal schooling, our curriculum also incorporates an extensive School Readiness Program. This program helps children develop essential early skills in numeracy, literacy, writing, recognition and pre-reading, building the confidence and foundations they need for their next educational journey.

Being a small, boutique centre allows us to create a more personal experience for children and families. We value open communication, meaningful relationships and strong partnerships with parents and carers. Our educators take the time to understand each child’s personality, interests, strengths and individual needs.

Our Commitment to Child Safety and Safeguarding

At Pelican Pre-School & Long Day Care, the safety, wellbeing and protection of every child is our highest priority. As a small, boutique centre, we take pride in creating a warm, nurturing and child-safe environment where every child feels secure, respected, valued and heard.

We are committed to maintaining a strong culture of child safety across all areas of our Centre. Our educators understand their responsibility to protect children and promote their wellbeing, rights and safety at all times.

Trained and Responsible Educators

All educators and staff are required to complete the mandatory training relevant to their roles, including training that supports their understanding of child safety, child protection and their responsibilities when working with children.

We recognise that child safety requires ongoing learning and vigilance. Our team participates in regular child protection and safeguarding training to ensure our knowledge and practices remain current. This supports educators to confidently recognise potential signs of abuse, neglect or harm and to respond appropriately in accordance with our policies, procedures and legal obligations.

Safeguarding in Everyday Practice

Safeguarding children is embedded into our everyday practices. Our educators use a range of safeguarding techniques to help create a safe and protective environment, including:
  • Maintaining appropriate and active supervision of children at all times.
  • Building respectful and professional relationships with children while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Creating environments where children feel comfortable expressing their feelings and raising concerns.
  • Encouraging children to speak up and ensuring their voices are listened to and taken seriously.
  • Being alert to changes in a child's behaviour, emotional wellbeing or interactions.
  • Following appropriate procedures when concerns about a child's safety or wellbeing arise.
  • Maintaining professional boundaries and ensuring interactions with children are transparent and appropriate.
  • Using safe and respectful approaches to personal care and supporting children's individual needs.
  • Working collaboratively with families to support children's safety, wellbeing and development.
  • Regularly reviewing our practices, policies and environments to identify and minimise potential risks.

We believe children should feel comfortable expressing their feelings, asking questions and speaking up if something makes them uncomfortable or unsafe. Our educators build trusting, respectful relationships with children and encourage them to communicate their needs and concerns.

We listen to children, take their concerns seriously and create opportunities for their voices and perspectives to be heard.

Our Centre promotes positive and respectful interactions between educators, children and families. We maintain appropriate professional boundaries and follow our child protection, supervision, risk management and safety procedures to help ensure children are protected throughout their time at Pelican.

Our whole-center water filtration system utilizes a 3-stage filtration technique to soften and remove even the finest dirt, sediments, and chemicals from the tap water.

We are confident that having access to softened, contaminant-free water will provide great health benefits for our children and staff. For example:
